Synopsis of the Book:

Another fascinating book resulting from one of the most historical and interesting symposiums ever presented at the US Naval Academy "Naval Forces Under the Sea." Sponsored by the Office of Naval Research, the objective of the symposium was to address and highlight the US Navy's significant contributions to diving and submarine rescue through lectures, panel discussions and oral history recordings...this book is the second produced from that symposium. The first book was "Naval Forces Under the Sea: A Look Back, A Look Ahead".

It is the intent of this book to record the portions of the US Navy's undersea story that were left untold, and to give details of the whole story to include how man, through the US Navy, challenged the oceans' depths - how they sometimes lost and how they sometimes won.

The US Navy has incorporated as many key figures as possible and assures readers their mission is to thoroughly convey the 'rest of the story' of US Naval undersea history.
(Hardcover: 402 pages)

"Naval Forces Under the Sea: The Rest of the Story has been well worth the effort. It tells the history of naval undersea warfare since the introdution of the first US submarine, USS Holland. But it is more than a history book. By using literal excerpts from the numerous interviews, much of the book consists of a living history, told in story fashion by those who made this history. The Rest of the Story preserves this history to be retold again and again to future generations."
--M. Lew Nuckols, PhD, PE - Planning Committee Co-Chairman

"Navy buffs won't be able to put down Naval Forces Under the Sea: The Rest of the Story. The 404 page hardcover from Best Publishing is a compilation of stories and marine research that grew out of a symposium at the US Naval Academy."
--Robert Sterner, Editor, Northeast & Northwest Dive News

"For those interested in the US Navy's history and exploits, this book is for you! Far more than a coffee table book, it is loaded with full- color photos of divers, submarines, equipment, special forces and technical operations."
Military Writers Society of America

"Naval Forces Under the Sea: The Rest of the Story is an amazing translation of the incredibly rich oral history of Navy diving and undersea warfare from 1900 to the present. Each chapter takes the reader on one more journey to the extremes, and I think 'journeys to the extreme' is a good way to characterize not only this book but the diving community as a whole. The book continues with narratives on deep submergence operations, other saturation diving related topics, harbor clearance, the Navy Experimental Diving Unit, submarine rescue and escape, U.S. Navy cooperation and exchange with the Royal Navy, and marine mammal research. Each story is more intriguing than the last, and each extreme is further beyond the imagination than the last."
